A Piano on the Sea - Plage de Corbiéres
La Cie la Rumeur transforms Corbiéres beach into a theater under the open night sky . A repeat performance from a group that has been around for almost a decade and performs regularly in the PACA region (check out last year's performance of "Un Piano à la Mer" on their website).
Marseille's Blue Daze - La Fête Bleue
Before you choose your clothes this morning, think blue, since today starts
La Fête Bleue in Marseille. It is the 1st time I have noticed this celebration, but in the summertime, who can keep them all straight and it just seems like one long party? This is the 4th of these festivals which includes music, dance and performances around town for 3 days, but done in blue which is also the "dresscode". In fact, wearing blue is enough to get you in free to the Soirée Groove Unity on Wednesday night, otherwise pay 5€. Many of the major buildings and momuments will also be lit...

Orange Freestyle Cup 2010 at Borély - June 16th to 20th, 2010
Maybe you've seen the 3rd Orange Freestyle Cup posters up all over town,
but just in case not..., it is not to be missed since it is the Marsilia beach-meets-street spirit at its best. This event has drawn the best windsurfers (freestyle and ramp), BMX, skateboarders (World Skateboarding Cup) , SUP (stand-up paddleboarders) and a skydiving show all topped off with great music in the evenings on Plage de Bonneveine.
If you still have the shout/dance left in you, the afterparty starts at La Voile at 11 and keeps going until 5. I would suppose it will be packed, so if you have plans to eat there, reserve like now. Also...
Marseille Pride Parade - Feels like NYC in the Summer
This is something I could have told some of my Chelsea friends when they
visited last time from NYC. We always went to the Parade in the summer and watched the mayor boogie down in drag (Guilliani, I have never seen Bloomberg). There, the parade is just that for the city, a reason to watch floats, listen to great music and enjoy an overall good attitude...politics are usually left at home. I have been trying to lure my friends back for a summer visit and am pleased to stumble upon the info in L'hebdo this week which discusses the festival's history and the new associations that have sprung up around it.
I just happened to run into Marseille's Parade for the first time last year while shopping on the Canèbiere (the kids wanted to stay til the end for the free candy thrown into the crowds). It seems like this year's party is going on most of the week leading up to the actual parade...
Marsatac - La Friche la Belle Mai
12th edition of this legendary music concert in Marseille. For info and program look at marsatac.com
A couple pictures from Terroir 13
Terroir 13 ends tomorrow...Sunday 6th of June. I recommend this bellyache
since that is what you will have after sampling everything. The Camargue horseshow was today along with sheepherding (the world champion sheepherding dog was steering ducks, kids and sheep around). The kids will have a blast in this farm in the city layout on the ground floor along with games and expositions explaining husbandry and the most used livestock in the Bouche-du-Rhone. Read more to look at some pictures.
BB Brunes and V.V. Brown - Ricard S.A. Live Music Concert
Free concert sponsored by Ricard down on the Quai des Belges (where the fishmarket is in the morning). Concert starts at 8:30 PM and goes to? Still trying to confirm who opens...but more information is available on their site here.
I found a great video on youtube of VV Brown's Shark in the Water who actually has a great retro sound with slight Caribbean undertones...which always reminds me of the music of sultry summers.
Fete de la Musique 2010 - Festival of Music 2010
Initially born in France, this now international Festival of Music (Fête de la Musique) is at the start of every summer, June 21st. There are over 100 countries in 5 continents that participate in this festival and giving music back to the public for free has always been the credo. The 29th edition will pay hommage to women who have inspired, composed and perfomed throughout musical history.
Festival de Marseille - Dance and Performance Art of Marseille
Local and International artists in a variety of disciplines, but to summarize is mostly dance and performance art.
